Our Chairman attended a lecture on 16th February 2019 given by West Dorset Beekeepers’ Association concerning  raising awareness of the Asian Hornet and it’s potential impact in the UK. Colin reports: It is important that people watch out for the Asian Hornet Queens which are coming out of hibernation during late February and march.

They should be photographed, if possible, but not killed until their location has been reported and an expert has visited. It may have started making a nest which has to be found and destroyed. This can be difficult to do as the hornet has to be tracked.

This invasive pest has destroyed 30% of the honey market in France!
